Antonina Zabinski loved animals and they loved her.  She had a talent with them. You know, one of those people who can whisper to animals and they respond?  Antonina and her husband Jan lived in Poland, near Germany in the early 1900 and they accumulated animals.  penguins, wolves, hyenas, peacocks, rhinos, lions and even a baby elephant--the first to be born in a Polish zoo.

Fairly soon it was apparent that they needed to formalize their love relationship with animals and they began a zoo   All kinds of animals, lynx, bears, lions.  She ran a zoo in Warsaw Poland and shortly after the war began and all the Jews in Poland were moved to a central part called the ghetto.
