Harvard Business Professor on Religion and Democracy

Clay Christensen is a professor at harvard Business School and is well-respected TED speaker.  His books on "disruptive innovation" in the marketplace, formulates the idea that companies should not focus on customers' current needs, but instead invest time into innovation and technology to keep their company cutting edge.
In this video, Mr Christensen talks about the role Religious freedom plays in a democratic society.  His explanation was prompted by a discussion he had with a Marxist economist from China.

We must learn from those who live in a land without Religious Freedom.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQVm8RokoBA

Google WMAP is a diagram of the universe.  It's a timeline.  NASA condensed knowledge of how the universe was created.  Each vertical line delineates years.

Gerald Schroeder is a scientist with over thirty years of experience in research and teaching. He earned his Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate degrees all at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with his doctorate thesis being under the supervision of a physics professor.

Quest 3 Week 3 Assignments

This week we are going to focus on Christian philosophy.

Our reading is the going to focus on the Christian sections of Understanding the Times book.  Remember that each section, ie., biology, sociology, has a section that is the Christian philosophy.  Remember the author is biased toward Christianity so be aware as you read.

I would also like you to select a Christian Philosopher from your philosophy book this week to add to your Philosophers notebook.  Be prepared to discuss your findings on this individual in depth next week.    St. Augustine, etc...

The second assignment is I'd like you to watch this youtube video with family and discuss it.  Dentist Says God Doesn't Exist

I know some of you have seen God's Not Dead and God's not Dead II.  Both of these are recommended movies to watch during this section of study.  Both are available free on Youtube.

We will be reviewing Rhetoric and the Rhetorical process next week.  Refamiliarize yourself with Ethos, Pathos, Logos and understand why one effective process of presenting arguments is called the Socratic method.  Google image the Socratic triangle and discover why it is one method to evaluate and analyze literature.

Your vocabulary for this week is the following words:

Ethos,
Pathos
Logos,
Argument  -- not the one with your siblings, the philosophy one.
Apologist
Sophist
Christian Theism
Dualism
Monism
Skepticism
solipsism

Pick one of your assignments that you enjoyed and write your one page essay on that topic, the reading, the movie, the vocab, Socrates, rhetoric.  I can't wait to hear what you loved so much that you had to write about it.
